Used cooking oil & grease trap questions
How much does used cooking oil pickup cost?
Used cooking oil collection is free for food businesses across New York City. There are no fees, no minimum volumes and no contracts, and containers are included at no charge.
How often should I schedule cooking grease pick-up?
The frequency depends on your cooking volume. Most restaurants require weekly or bi-weekly service, but we'll review your fryer count and turnover with you to set the optimal schedule — and adjust it as your volume changes.
What types of oil do you accept for recycling?
We accept all types of cooking oils including vegetable oil, canola oil and fryer oil, as well as grease trap waste through our grease trap cleaning service.
Do you provide containers?
Yes. We supply appropriate containers free of charge, including secure outdoor bins and indoor collection vessels sized to your needs, plus ongoing maintenance and swap-outs.
Are you licensed to collect used cooking oil in New York City?
Yes. Bio Energy Development is licensed by the New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC LIC #TW3525), permitted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC Permit #1A-1149), and registered with the EPA (EPA ID #NYR000170753).
Which areas of New York City do you serve?
We serve Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, covering restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, commissaries and supermarkets. Routes are expanding — contact us if you're outside these areas.
Do you offer same-day or emergency service?
Yes. Same-day service is available across the five boroughs, including emergency grease trap pumping, cleaning and system inspection with real-time arrival updates.
What documentation do I get for inspections?
Every service includes disposal manifests and service logs. We provide complete records for health department inspections, BIC and DEC compliance, and we assist with required documentation and permits.
What happens to the oil after collection?
Collected oil is transported to our processing facility where it is refined into biodiesel and other renewable fuel products — reducing greenhouse gas emissions and displacing fossil fuel use.
Is there a contract or cancellation fee?
No. Service runs with no hidden fees and no long-term contracts. You can adjust your pickup frequency at any time.
